Expectations that US farmers will harvest a record corn crop this year have many investors wagering that corn futures will continue to fall. Corn prices had already tumbled 37 percent by the end of September, making the grain one of 2013’s worst-performing commodities. Department of Agriculture estimates put the harvest totals in the neighborhood of 13.8 billion bushels, 28 percent larger than last year’s crop and 5.7 percent greater than in 2009, the prior record.
